How Do I File an Insurance Claim for Storm Damage on My Roof?

STEPS FOR MAKING A CLAIM

Our process with our customers should be easy, which is why we want you to know exactly how a claim process works!

No surprises, no worry, just full transparency.

STEP 1 - Assess the Damage.

First you should walk around your property and assess how bad it is. If you need help with this, we are here for you! All of our estimates come with no strings attached and are FREE. The last thing we want to happen is for you to get hurt assessing your own roof, so call us any time to book a free estimate (877) 512-4207.

STEP 2 - Review Your Insurance Policy.

Check your insurance policy files to make sure that damage to your roof is covered in your contract. Take note of any other relevant details, such as what types of damage are covered.

STEP 3 - Document Your Damage

Every insurance company will look for specific documentation for the damage. Be sure to take plenty of photos and video. We can even do it for you! You'll want to include the date of the storm or the date the damage took place and to note if any interior damage has happened because of the exterior damage. Before and after photos will come in handy.

STEP 4 - Get in Touch with Your Insurance Agency

Get in touch with your insurance company as soon as possible and file a claim. Depending on your policy, it may be necessary to notify your insurance provider within a certain amount of time after the damage is caused. Be sure to ask your insurance agent if they have any specific procedures based on your damage assessment.

STEP 5 - Find a LOCAL Exterior Contractor for Your Roofing, Siding and Gutter Needs

Ask for a written estimate of the cost for replacing your roof. If your roof needs to be totally replaced, make sure they indicate in their report that this is indeed necessary, and that basic repairs won’t be a possible solution. It's a plus when your contractor has experience either in insurance or has an adjuster on their team so your home is properly handled with your insurance agency.

STEP 6 - File Your Claim

File a claim using the direct claim hotline to the insurance company, DO NOT CALL THE AGENT OR AGENCY!. Make sure you include all information and evidence your provider needs to accept a claim. If interior damage has been done as well, include copies of all receipts for furniture that was damaged, and an estimate of what it will cost to repair the interior. If the damage is so great that your family will be forced to live in a hotel while repairs are made, you’ll need to include this cost as well.

STEP 7 - Meet with An Adjuster

An insurance adjuster will need to visit your home and assess the damage themselves to validate your claim. Be sure that your contractor is experienced enough to meet with these adjusters. Your contractor should be your number one advocate!

STEP 8 - Replace the Damaged Areas of Your Home

Once the claim is approved and filed, your home's damage will go through your contractor's process for ordering materials and scheduling installment.

PRO TIP - Finding a contractor that will be your advocate through the entire process is best! You need to remember that insurance agencies like to cut corners to cut their costs and it's not beneficial to you or your home if the process is not done correctly.
